Inspiration for childless and childfree women

Thoughts and ideas to inspire, uplift and affirm the childless and childfree, by circumstance and by choice

What did the first American woman to enter space, the first woman to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean, the first female fashion designer and the first American woman to receive a Nobel Peace Prize all have in common?

Each one travelled a path other than motherhood.

I sometimes wonder which comes first, the willingness to do something extraordinary (chicken) or the reality of being childless/childfree (egg), but in the end I don’t suppose it matters. The important thing is to take this history as encouragement for us to dream a little bigger, be a little braver and move a little closer towards wilder ideas.

ps. They were Sally Ride, Amelia Earhart, Coco Chanel and Jane Addams.

If you’re interested in the connection between being childless/childfree and having brilliant ideas you might enjoy reading about the possibility that such women are freer to take risks if they choose, or about the way meme theory could apply.
